The Farnham Walking Festival is being held between 16th May and 7th June this year. Our Group continues to support it and is leading two walks, as follows:
Green Spaces of The Bourne
Date: Thursday 21st May
Time: 10:00 – 13:00
Start: Bourne Green (Recreation Ground), opposite St. Martin’s Church, Old Frensham Rd, Farnham GU10 3PU
Distance: 3.5 miles approximately
Description: Starting from Bourne Green the walk will cross some open ground, close woodland and heathland, passing through Sable Wood and Bourne Wood, before meeting up with an RSPB Guide who will lead the group through the Farnham Heath Reserve. The walk will take in aspects of the landscape and its geology as well as wildlife and local history. With good weather, there will be fine views of the distant Hindhead hills. Moderate walks along woodland tracks – some quite steep. Dogs allowed.
From the Bat to the Cow in the Bourne Valley
Date: Monday 25th May
Time: 10.30 to 12.30
Start: Bat and Ball Pub, Lower Bourne, GU10 4SA
Distance: 2.5 miles approximately
Description: A short scenic family-friendly walk along the Bourne Valley from the Bat and Ball Pub to the Spotted Cow Pub, with car parking at the start and a shuttle service back to the start if required. During the walk we will see the Grade 2 listed Heron Court, have a visit to the Middle Bourne Lane Community Wildlife Garden to see the results of, and to release, the previous night’s moth trapping and walk past the cottage lived in by local author George Sturt who wrote about the Bourne Village in Victorian and early Edwardian times. Although quite short, the walk has a few short hilly sections (unfortunately not suitable for wheelchairs) and a little minor road walking. Dogs welcome but, of necessity, on leads most of the time.
